I guess my old eyes see things slightly differently. To begin with I am no “bleeding heart liberal” but I see an impractical side to parts of your campaign.
It’s easy to try and rationalize that what you already have is a good starting point to freeze frame the rest of the country and the rest of the world. Back in the late 1800′s it was “popular” to bash the elite in the country and everyone, except the elite of course, saluted the gesture. The problem is one of equality. The good old have and have nots.
You propose good thought, as the populists did, but no real solutions to the constant turmoil such policies would provke. The rioting in the streets from the masses will make you spend disproportionate monies on an army that would be enforcing martial law in cites from Newark NJ to Seattle. BTW soliders are also reluctant to shoot thier own kind (It’s so much easier to rationalize when they don’t look like you or speak your language) so this could go badly and produce an outcome you weren’t expecting. Also, not too many people are making the soldiers life their chosen profession. Now you have lawless areas that have to be recalimed with hard nose soliders or better yet mercenaries (opps from the poorer countries that already hate us). Ironically you might find yourself supporting the very people you cut off in the fisrt place just to get order resstored. Civil war is not an event, it’s evolutionary and It rarely produces anything economically positive. While all this is going on the rest of the world is just bidding their time waiting for a chance to get a slice of the pie as well.
Foreign policy is a very tricky business and in an effort to protect your blind side I suggest some additional thought here as well. Nation to nation friendships still boil down to people relationships. Today’s friends are only an aging process away from becoming tomorrow’s enemies. (You can look that one up if you study the whole Arab nation relationship over the last 100 years.) Once again you’ll need a big stick as your world “holdings” are met with aggression.
Hungry people will not be reasoned with and will not respect your isolationist ideas for very long. We need other nations more then we see from our lofty perch in the suburbs of Philadelphia.
Observe real poverty in the world as I have and your heart will melt. Children who are blameless will grow up to hate you and take action. Opps that’s already happening. If the solutions you suggest didn’t produce a whole laundry list of new problems we might already be implementing those ideas.
I will of course support your Presidency because I’ll be in a cushy wing of the renovated “Beige House” that I assume you will repaint to support your neutral stance on party politics. If you could move the capitol a little further south that would be great I still like my golf you know.
